50 year old barrel back

 This one I date at just after WW2. There was plenty of long staples to remove with all the fabric tie in to the exposed wood. A nice tight frame. A great sitting hieght also.

               As I peel off the old fabric and prep the stuffings. I tailor up the inside curved back.

    Here it is ready to go for many years to come. The tapestry fabric will take to wear very well. Chosen from my in stock fabric.

Map wing back

Here I have a small wing back, all tacks removed, exposed wood freshened up. Sure has some age to this piece.

    This tag attached in 1959 the last time it was upholstered in Manhatten. I sewed the tag to the bottom of the frame.

                                          The down seat cushion needed a little more feathers.

    This is a picture of the deep fitted arm covers. I f you look real carefull at the"G" at the bottom of the pic you can seperate the arm cover from the arm. The edge runs vertical up from the "G" to the "T" in antartica.

   The finished piece. This chair resides in a very old farmstead in New Ipswich NH. That is no place for new furnishings.

As time rolls on this piece will be still standing when most all corporate newly designed furniture will be in a landfill.

modern crome, stripped to the bone, Love seat

                                     
 Here is a chair with a love seat that stayed home. The set is probably close to 50 years old. From fabric choice considerations to redesigning the cushions to solve a design flaw.

            10 cushions tailored up ready to go.

        What a great little side chair. Probably made in the early 1950's. Does your living room seem cramped? it may be the overstuffed modern corporate furniture is to blame. Look at the size of this chair. what a nice set.

Here it is stripped down and tied the coil springs.

Original hay stuffings dusted out and hand set in place with coats of cotton batting applied. With 1 inch nosing nailed to the front. Natural stuffings sure are best. To rebuild this chair in modern stuffings sure wouldn't be doing this piece any favors.

 

And here is the finished piece. Outsides backed and lined with a thin coat of cotton with all the wood freshened up.

One great loveseat

This love seat probably produced in the 1960's is sure one quality piece of furniture. Hardwood frame, hand tied coil springs with full down cushions inside a very deep inside depth. And huge cushions.

                          Here is the frame re upholstered with restoration repairs done to the base. The fabric has a large stretch to it. It tailored up nicely, takes plenty of experience to sew and set loose strechy fabric satisfactorily.

 The down seat cushions where a little weak with the down so down was added to freshen up the seat cushions. With Full fitted arm covers "surged".

                          Here is the skirt cut, sewn, pleated and steam tailored . ready for the frame.

 The piece originally didn't have a skirt. This wood nailer curved cut  was added to both outside arms so the attachment of the skirt will go smoothly.

                                          Here is a closeup of the back side of the skirt. Surged.

       So many folks now a days leave their homes in search of great furniture when the best is right their at home.

                                           Here is a chance to really show some tailoring skills.

The seat cushion matches at the belting and piping and flows through to the decking.

                                             Matched at the top of the inside and outside backs

               Note the vertical and horizontal matching carried throughout the outside arms and wings

Swedish Home Furnishings

This recliner and ottoman sure is a challenge to upholster.The owner chose a faux leather in a cream color. Here's a pic of the cushions removed from the frame before the patterning begins.

The main plates are elastic webbing stretch sewn with 3/4 inch backed foam to center pleates. This pic shows the cushion assembly before "packing".

And the finished recliner and ottoman.

Vinyl work,bike and Equipment seating

                        This John deer 4200 backhoe seat and backrest with all steel frames need some attention. Covered in a tweed fabric.

I tailored this marine grade vinyl onto these pieces. Precut the holes for attachment. And some stuffings reworked so it's got a nice clean tailered look.

Fun In The Sun

              Below is a 2 inch cushion with polywrap and printed outdoor fabric from the in stock fabrics. Complete with ties.                                   

Here I refurbished a pair of 40 year old sun loungers.

Here is the back side. Spring system sure is a nice design.

The owner picked a deep blue army cotton duct 18 oz. weight I sold her. Sewed back in the steel cord and attached back to the frame.
