French Provential Side Chair

This classic showed up for some attention.

After pulling lots of extra long staples to get nice clean lines its ready to get tailored up.

                                                

 The bottom deserves a new set of webbing & a high end dust cover.

 It's been a while that all the finished wood has seen a freshen up.

A nice coat of cotton helps this piece looking sharp.

I couldn't resist dabbling with the camera with this classic side chair.

The outside back centered and set tight as a drum.

 This whole piece is set with rolled under fabric. (not set then cut)

Sure use all my experience over the years to set the pieces tight.

 Uniform single set tacks.

The small arm caps are mirror set.

 Center set firm.

 Clean cut inside back posts.

 These French pieces sure don't allow much tolerance at all when tailoring them up.

This piece will make some great company.

A Beautiful Couple #3

This set of hardwood well built chairs with a nice large size, needs a new fabric from the owners choice.

After removing lots of extra long half inch staples throughout, they are ready to be tailored back up.

 The polywrap synthetic layer just below the fabric just doesn't cut it and needs replacing. 

Natural cotton gives a much better feel. Cotton also quiets a room down.

 These stripes are small & bold.

Keeping these stripes from waving & mirror cutting the pair is paramount.

 Of course the outside back gets lined & backed with the right amount of cotton batting.

Mirror cut pleats.

 Clean arm cuts.

 Note the green stripes intercept.

 No waving on the sides either.

With a nice tight set on the base.

 Matching piping trim on the front & back.

Straight up through.

 I have been doing upholstery from this shop for 20 years this week!

Classical Settee Love seat

This Item for sale

I couldn't walk by this settee at an estate sale here in southern New Hampshire.

I have restored this piece and its ready for your seasoned upholsterer to tailor up the fabric of your choice (six yards).

 This classical Settee ( love seat size) has some great carvings, with the eagles and partially hairy lion claws, with a mix of empire.  The accented swirled arms are nice.  The frame is solid , the spring base restored.  The exposed wood freshened up.  All old tacks removed.

arm height 31" crest height 37", 25 " deep, setting height 18", 66 inches in length. 

 The back attachments have been cleaned up properly.

If you move your mouse over the pics you can see close up.

All old webbing & nails removed.

 Traditional webbings for sure.

 Tied up tight like a drum.

 All the original stuffings retained of course.

With fresh cotton.

 All lined, ready for a thin coat of natural cotton & the fabric of your choice.

All the old covering saved for your upholsterer.

A real solid frame.

This piece is 70 miles from downtown Boston.

Mirror set wing back chair

This well built old timer needs some attention.

A dog decided to chew on the legs over the years.

I spent some time on these legs.

I don't like to make the finish look new on these older pieces.

Patina wear should be sustained with a careful balance.

the top base needs a good dusting out & retie the top. 

Lots of staples were pulled to get clean flat lines.

 Traditional burlap. And reset the horse hair.

 Hand sewn nosing line.

 Fresh cotton to top off the rebuilt base.

After the owner considered my in stock fabric,  They decided on this nice traditional fabric from a nearby fabric shop.

 As the old layers of fabric are peeled off.  New cotton is tailored up.

 And the outsides backed & lined with a thin coat of cotton.

With nice proud piping to draw out all the lines created when the wooden frame was made.

Centered up through.

Heres where the seat cushion meets the inside back.

 And the front of the seat cushion & frame nosing.

 And over the top of the inside back to the outside back.

 Mirror cut arms.

 Mirror set inside back & inside wings.

 Setting the fabric to draw out all the flair of the wings.

The arm fronts mirror set also.

Wing backs have been a daily chair for hundreds of years for many reasons.

And with this great tapestry it sure will look inviting after a full day.

 With a new quality foam cushion with a polywrap & deep fitted surged arm covers, this piece is ready to serve.
