Upholstery art is a true passion of mine.  I also enjoy photography with my Lumix FZ40 camera.
These pics were taken with only 640 X 480 pixels but still came out with some nice detail.

North Europe Furniture Restoration

This pair of chairs are not over engineered. 

 They do not require a unreasonable amount of materials.

 They simply serve the owners. 

 Craftsmanship at their creation intended to last many generations.

Designed to be owner friendly.

 Probably created in the early 1980's.

 35 or so years later it's time for a restoration here in Southern New Hampshire.

The frame plates removed, a freshen up on this finish wood worked well.

 Before & after.

 This stretch gum webbing has deteriorated after 35 years or so.

 Reset with this synthetic stretch webbing, they should last longer.

 New 2635 foam with the sides set are really gonna pay off when tailoring up the fabric, chosen from my fabric books in house.

4 yards completed these 2 chairs.

A lot of new American designed furniture require 9 yards for one chair.

 The arch on the inside back really needs to be kept an eye on throughout the restoration.

When the back plate & seat plate meet They need to be pleasing.

 Super soft 1 inch back foam with foam edges set.

 Cotton coats really give this pair a nice feel & really help these tailor up with style & flair.

There was an odd space between the frame & inside back.

I shimmed them up to please the eye.

 Mission accomplished.

 A thinner coat of cotton for the outside backs.

 Proper size piping to draw out the lines.

 And a top end dust cover set tight & clean.

 The outside back, clean, back & soft set.

!8th Century Bent Back Rocker

I may be a bit optimistic dating this chair at 1799 or before.  But the oxidization of the wood on the inside is excessive, Square nails, The wood is cement like, and the small size. 21" wide in the front and a mear 34 inches in height makes this chair one seldom seen. And sure was created before 1840 imho.

All the joints were tight after disassembly except this one I glued up & clamped.

The wood was pretty dry till I applied a coat of this fine restorer.

The bottom base was completely stripped, regaled & new screws, set at the same angles as the main frame.

Then traditional webbing set just firm enough.

 Hand tied coil springs, inspected & reset.

 Then traditional burlap with nosing.

 Quality 2635 foam custom cut with full coat of cotton.

 And lined before upholstery fabric.

 The inside back frame was completely stripped as well.  Some parts of the frame glued up also.

The horse hair was saved on the inside back with fresh cotton & lined.

 Matching traditional gimp on the outside back.

 What a nice crown with the sufferings married up to it nice & clean.

 This small tight frame is ready for another round in the world.

Old style recliner wing back

Most furniture is designed with many road blocks leading them to the American landfill, not to be reupholstered.  This is a great example of a design to last a lifetime.

The frame & stuffings are as tight as the day it was assembled 25 or 30 years ago.

All old upholstery finish fabric & staples removed as the new fabric chosen from my same day ship supplier.

 All the staple lines rolled under for a clean & neat finish.

 These black tacks chosen by the owner adds a touch of flair.

All hand set.

 Wouldn't forget the under skirts.

And to freshen up the nice wood finish on the finely carved legs & stretchers.

 Recliners are like a puzzle, taken apart, reworked and reassembled.

 Ready to serve with a new 2635 foam poly wrap seat cushion & deep fitted arm covers(not shown).
