empire revival restoration

Created around the turn of the century.
This sentimental restoration on this solid heavy built chair.
what great arms and thick back.
A hundred and ten years from creation and this piece is ready for some attention so it will be ready for another hundred.
Lots of  patina on the exposed mohogony.

First thing I'm gonna get lots and lots of tacks out.
There are several layers of repairs that need to come off as well.
Here shows the base (the bottom)
                                                                 And the outside back.
I missed the pic of the excessive tack holes on the base and other areas.
a good filler set in and sanded.

A couple pics of the base and inside back as the layers are peeled off.

The chair is now  down to the frame.
Gonna glue up some of the frame on the back side across the frame.

All glued and clamped tight with hide glue for the night.
And now i'll reglue the front main beams and support blocks.

Finally reset the arm bases.

And added pre drilled holes with 3 inch screws.
2 on each arm.

The inside back with new webbing and hand sewn attached springs to the webbing.

                                                      New base webbing shown.
Thanks for looking.
THIS PAGE IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION

cushion work

Here is seating for two.
Two back cushions and 2 seat cushions.
Below shows the numbers so to cut the fabric off the yardage.
And the fabric cut off the bolt ready for "assembly".

And lots of ribbon needed for the "welt" cording.
The cushions steamed back to original shape and a soft polywrap glued on.
The sides of the chairs must be open so I designed it so the zippers will not show on the sides.
All 4 sewn, packed and wrapped.

Pockets made for the zipper slides.
Free repack for life on the 4 cushions.
They ever start looking "lazy" there is no labor charge for the freshen-up.

Possible masonic chair

Below shows a pic of the chair tore down before going to a local artisan for lots of cosmetic wood repair work.
Lots of symbols on this one.

Here the artisan replaced missing veneer on the round.
                                                             Hand tied coil springs.
                                                                Traditional bulap.
Beautiful horse hair stuffings for the base.
Dusted out and ready for another hundred years.
Checkerboard soft set traditional webbing for the base.
The inside back lined after the traditional stuffings.
As well as the base lined before the final fabric.
                                                             Check out the fabric choice.
Fabric consultation took a while to come up with the right fabric for the owner but we got it done.
                                                          A dressy flear'delife pattern.

                                                          And the outside back finished.
