New Hampshire Upholstery

Here I have a pair of chairs from a country home from out in the woods of southern New Hampshire to be upholstered.

Below shows the chairs with all the staples removed from these solid hardwood frames.

 The southwestern fabric sure was nice in its day but time for a facelift!

Here below shows the hand sewn decking to the reset base .

 And a nice coat of cotton to keep the bases nice and taught.

 And shown the bases complete.

And the arm patterns stripped of for patterning and sewing up the new arms.

They are sewn all together, the arm fronts, inside arms and outside arms before mirror tailoring them up.

I steamed the foam back to it's original shape to freshen them up.

 And topped the arms with a fresh coat of cotton.

 Below shows the arm sets all mirror cut and sewn ready to be turned and applied.

 There was a lot of tailoring getting these arms looking sharp.

 And the outside back ready to go.

 I most always line the outside before the final coverings.

 

 The outside back soft set, strait and centered.

 The arms tailored up with the seat cushion set.

 The outside arms balanced tailored with the inside arms.

 The inside back centered with the outside back and the piping trim.

 Front center base piping matched with the nosing.

 And the workshop cleaned up and the pair's complete.

NH motorcycle seat upholstery

It's a high of 10 degrees farenheight today in New Hampshire.

Great day to stay inside and tailor up an old motorcycle seat or two.

 I always use stainless steel staples.

Black marine grade vinyl really stands up and tailors up nicely.

 And ussually leave the welting cord off and do a nice clean topstich instead.

Antique parlor chair

In comes this frame from a local antique artisan who restored this frame.

He met with me before he dis-assembled the upholstery and springs and stuffings.

Here is the spring base rebuilt.

 The ornate carvings on this chair are special for sure.
What special character.

 Fresh burlap applied over the tied springs, with horsehair nosing hand sewn to the burlap.

 The base all built up and burlap and jute webbing to fill the arms and back.

 I designed the 3 piece inside arms and back. 

Sewn together and ready to be installed over natural cotton and horse hair stuffings.

Lots of tailoring to do here on this curved frame.

 The arm tops with horse hair and fresh cotton.

 And the frame ready for 13 yards of a nice 1/2 inch gimp to really top off this old timer.
This picture doesn't do the arm fronts justice.
They are extremely proud and ornate.

 With the outside in one piece of fabric.

Backed and lined with a thin coat of cotton.

The marks seen here just swept away.

 And the Feather and down seat cushion cut and sewn.

Ready for gimp.

 And a special matching ottoman that never got lost.

And the gimp applied throughout.

Old Time Dump Truck

Here is an opportunity to really jazz up a 1950's dump truck being restored.

I matched up the seat vinyl color with the painted dash board.

 The original upholstery did'nt fill in very well at the hinge edge.

I redesigned the pattern to fill in the hindge back area.

 A pic from the side.

 Nice clean and strait top edge.

 The hog ringed edges all pre cut to length all around the back and seat bottom.
