My Own Daily Chair

This Chippendale wingback chair & ottoman. Sitting in front of a large well kept home in Greenfield New Hampshire with a free sign on it. The house cat had gotten to it pretty well and some of the frame joints loosened up.

Chippendale style is known for their proud wings.
Complex intersections with pulls change from the back to the sides.
I enjoy the little lined pocket. The deep fitted arm covers double the life of the fabric.
This chair has a nice base hieght.
(easy to get up out of)
3 inch foam with a polywrap without piping keeps this piece period.

Nice wings!
Since this is my chair I closed out the outside back with painted staples.
I never have done that in all my 25 years for any one else's furniture.
Such nice lines the wood artisan has created.
Take the next 3 pics to appreciate the form.
Very nice.

After a day's labor of upholstery I will be living large enjoying this one.
For sure!
The seat back was a little to vertical for my liking. So I neatly cut off 3/4 of an inch off the back legs.
I'd be willing to bet that 9 out of 10 could cruise Americas box stores and be hard to find a chair that's built to last a hundred years and designed to be upholstered not thrown away in the trash.  And a set that is good for your body.
My Bride & I will sure enjoy this.

New Hampshire Porch Cushions #3

Spring 2016 is on it's way.
The owners of a sofa & two chairs with an ottoman made for a 3 season porch needs reworking.  My guess its been at least 20 years since any maintenance has been done.
The owners chose a nice sunbrella fabric from my in house samples, same day delivered from my supplier.

Steam brings foam back to it's original shape.  There is plenty of life left in the seat cushions.
I also stripped the old polywrap and glued on fresh new polywrap.
Mirror cut pleats.
Wrapped up, waiting for spring.

I make my own custom back cushions.
The old back cushion stuffings were filled with the finest white dust from the deteriorated old stuffings.
Using the proper liner fabric I worked up the new inserts.
Hand sewn closed the zipper slides.
After carefully installing buttons. The back cushions are not looking lazy anymore.
The old back cushions didn't have piping.  I took the time to sew in piping to help dress the set up just a little.
All 11 pieces complete & ready to serve. Safe & sound with my in house fabric library.  With 3/4 of a yard left over after tailoring up a top throw for the ottoman.

Upholster Swivel Wing Back New Hampshire

This well made swivel skirted wing back chair has seen 30 years or more of use.
Time to re-upholster this quality piece.
The foams are in top notch shape and the frame as tight as the day t was assembled.
After removing lots of staples, cutting & plotting, cutting & sewing
time to tailor up.
Cotton layers on the arms. The top for extra support and throughout the arms. (pic not taken).
A full coat of fresh cotton on the inside back.
The camera does no justice to this soft green damask picked from my fabric library.
A coat of cotton on the outsides help tailor this classic piece of furniture properly.

Mirror cut arm fronts as well.

Spring front nosing with the back & lined skirt.

                                                 New 2635 4" foam w/wrap seat cushion.
Ready to serve.
